Starting in 2026, each scholarship applicant will only need to complete one universal scholarship application. After submitting the universal portion of the application, an applicant may be asked to complete any supplemental questions for eligible opportunities. To identify which scholarship opportunities you’re eligible for, take the required eligibility quiz before starting the universal application.

  1. When should I start the application?
Start the application as soon as possible to allow time for third-party responses. If you start too late, they may not have time to submit a response and your application may be incomplete. Incomplete applications are disqualified. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that all required documents and third-party submissions are submitted before the deadline.
  2. What is an eligibility quiz?
The eligibility quiz matches your answers to the scholarships you qualify for, and if you believe you are eligible for a specific scholarship but did not match, you can request a review of your eligibility quiz. The deadline to request a review of the eligibility quiz is one full week before the application deadline.
  3. I completed my application. What is the next step in the process?
After submitting your application, it is essential to follow up with your third parties to ensure that they submit the requested forms before the deadline.
  4. Who is considered a “Third-Party” in the application process?
A teacher and/or guidance counselor is required to submit a Letter of Recommendation (LOR) or Transcript Upload on your behalf as part of the application process.
  5. I received an email stating my application is incomplete. What does an incomplete application mean?
The email will state what action is required. Most commonly, you may have to resubmit a document or follow up with your third-party responders to ensure they submit a response before the deadline.
  6. What if I do not have a digital copy of my document? Can I use a screenshot?
If you do not have access to a scanner, you can upload your documents using a smartphone, a school’s computer lab, or a public library. Partial screenshots and poor-quality documents will not be accepted. If you receive a physical Letter of Recommendation, you must ask your Third Party to use our online form.
  7. What documents are required?
At a minimum, all scholarship applications require the completed returned FAFSA, university acceptance letter, university financial award letter, estimated cost of attendance from the university, letter of recommendation (LOR), and a transcript. Additional information may be requested.
  8. Are all scholarships online?
Everything must be submitted online. (Including, but not limited to, supporting documentation, letter of recommendation, transcript). If you receive a courtesy email asking you to resubmit a document, you must resubmit online. Do not submit or resubmit documents by email.
  9. When will I know if I was approved for a scholarship?
If you are selected, notifications will be sent by email mid-late summer. It is required that students, and their institution sign an agreement prior to funds being disbursed. Accepting a scholarship is a multi-step process. Deadlines will be indicated in the congratulatory email, please do not delay in responding. Remember to check your spam folder.
  10. Is there a limit to the number of scholarships I can receive?
Students can only receive one award total from The Foundation even if the student applied to multiple scholarships.
  11. When do I receive scholarship payment?
Scholarship payments will be sent to the student’s school no later than August 31st. (Delays in sending out payments typically occur when the student does not complete the scholarship acceptance process on time). It usually takes at least two to three weeks for schools to receive and process payments.

Should you have any questions, or need additional information, please contact Yani Ortiz, Manager of Grants and Scholarships, at The Montgomery County Foundation, Inc. by email and we will get back to you within 24-48 business hours or sooner. We are closed on weekends.

We encourage the student to take an active part in their education. While we understand there’s some need for parents to assist, in general we want to focus on the student’s interaction.

Thank you to the generous support of the many donors who care deeply about education and the students in our community.
